Why teamwork in digital marketing?

Marketing departments are undergoing changes in some niches, reducing or eliminating the collaborative power of an entire team in favor of individual work - such as entrepreneurs or marketers - who supervise campaigns for themselves. In fact, teams are much more efficient due to their collaborative nature, but too many companies have been stuck with the idea that the single human element is more important these days.

As we see it, the root of the problem lies in the vast diversity of different tools and technologies available to the modern marketer. Market research tools make data collection easy, automation tools help you with difficult tasks in record time, even most forms of modern communication technology, such as emails and social media, happen instantly. This has led many companies to have a bad impression that a single person can manage an entire campaign. Unless your company is just starting out and you are building a foundation, it is much better to have a team of people working together.

The importance of teamwork

Teamwork has its own challenges, but the benefits are clear in digital marketing:

1. Creative thinking

Creative thinking in teams doesn't always work well - some people don't stop talking and others just don't talk. Even so, the best ideas do not spring spontaneously from the mind of one person but are created by a group of people who gradually play with an initial idea, and improve it until they reach something admirable. Adding more creative people to your team will help you have more creative ideas for your campaigns, which will put you ahead of the competition.

2. Set clear responsibilities

Your team can do a better job by segmenting different responsibilities and assigning them to different team members. This will allow people to work more efficiently together. Also, you are going to allow your work team to develop roles. As a general rule in marketing, it is better to have a group of specialists working together than a group of people working alone together.

3. Share knowledge between areas

Remember that your marketing team is only one part of your overall team; link your marketing department with your other areas to share knowledge for a better and more efficient organization. For example, few areas know your customers better than the customer service area. Allowing your customer service team to talk to your marketing team (and vice versa) can help for a better understanding of how to reach better your customers. This helps both the marketing and customer service teams to do their jobs better.

4. Compensating for tunnel vision

A person will always have different forms of "tunnel vision" that will interfere with their ability to plan or execute a successful marketing campaign. It can be transmitted in limitations, inclinations that are not recognized or priorities that are poorly distributed that neglect certain basic principles. When you have a team, each person will have different experiences, inclinations, and priorities that complement each other. You must expect for this collective tunnel vision for a more comprehensive campaign.

5. Team problem solving

Sometimes you will run into problems and challenges during your marketing campaign. It's natural, but the way you respond to these issues can make your campaign a success or a failure. You need to respond quickly and often in creative ways. By working with a team, you'll have a wider range of options, new ways to solve old problems, and perhaps a way to streamline work so it gets done faster.

6. Balance the workload

The different stages of your campaign will create greater demands on certain people on your work team. Your copywriters may be overwhelmed one day while your analysts may be the next. Working as a team can give you the opportunity to rebalance these workloads, preserving worker efficiency and morale at the same time. Because you will develop specialists in your team, you will be able to delegate or share at least some tasks to make workloads more reasonable.

Once you adopt a mindset that prioritizes teamwork in your marketing space, you will start seeing the benefits immediately. Your work team will have more communication, you will produce better ideas, you will overcome hurdles faster and with more efficiency, and you will know your client better.

If you can't afford a full team of marketers, don't worry. There are alternate ways to achieve the "dynamic" team. For example, you can make your creative team part of the idea creation process or hire a consultant or freelance professional to help you with more specific and complex problems. There are always alternatives, but you need more minds working for you if you want to be successful.
