Does SEO work?

What is SEO?

SEO seeks to improve the visibility of a website so that it appears in better search results organically. This concept is also called natural positioning, organic positioning, search engine positioning, web positioning, or simply and given the relevance of this search engine, Google positioning.

As with almost all online marketing disciplines, SEO has evolved a lot over the years. In its origins, web positioning techniques were very primitive and primarily based on repeating specific keywords, while now the user experience is much more relevant.

What are the origins of SEO?

Although today it seems essential to us, the truth is that Google did not make its appearance until the year 96, and even today, there are countries in the world where it is not particularly popular. The origins of these types of tools, called search engines, dating back to the early 1990s when the boom in web pages began.

Almost all web pages have the same goal: to attract quality traffic. A very effective form to get visitors is through search engines. Web admins realized this and began to compete to rank higher in search engines. SEO was born.

How does SEO work?

Google and other search engines collect, organize, and display relevant information to answer user queries. To do this, they carry out three main processes:

Tracking

Search engines rely on a team of web crawlers, also known as web spiders or simply bots, to find up-to-date content on the web. To identify the needed information to index a page, web crawlers are vital.

Indexing

It refers to how search engines store and organize collected web pages. Once web crawlers find information on a site, such as keywords and fresh content, they add the web page to the search index. When users search for relevant information, the search engine will retrieve the indexed web page.

Positioning

Indexed web pages will be displayed in search results from the most relevant content to the least appropriate.

How do search engines work?

Search engines generate a spider, a program that performs searches on web pages. The spider indexes any content that it finds interesting and makes it appear in the search engine. This content is ranked according to its alignment with search engine standards.

The limitation of this search process is that since machines and not humans perform it, sometimes they cannot identify relevant content without some help.

An example of this limitation could be a camera without autofocus. The camera can take the photo, but it needs the human eye to define the focus or apply any of the available filters to optimize or personalize the photo.

How to get a position on Google?

You will indeed find hundreds of articles, courses, and videos that make you aware of the different activities you must carry out to achieve it. However, the reality is that the vast majority of these information sources present only part of the recipe, and it is challenging to achieve that goal just by reading these articles and listening to this or that online course.

Search engine optimization is a fairly complex matter that only an SEO specialist can deal with. By comparison, if your knee was fractured and needs surgery, you will need to see a surgeon. Perhaps it is advisable to read something about your problem to be informed, but you can never become a surgeon by reading a couple of articles.

This information is intended to help you establish an appropriate strategy to position your web page in Google. To perform the work of an SEO specialist and obtain good results, you must train and gain experience in search engine optimization. If that's your goal, contact a professional web design training company.

What types of tasks are performed in SEO?

SEO can be understood through its segmentation into two large blocks of tasks:

SEO On-page: It is the aspect that has to do with the structure of a website and the optimization of its different factors: meta-tags, headers, content, enriched data, etc. This block should be understood as a "set-up" of the website so that search engine crawlers can track it and interpret it in the most optimal way possible.

SEO Off-page: It has to do with the actions that are carried out outside the website. In this block, all those tasks related to improving domain authority are collected, understood as the "popularity" of the domain in the Internet ecosystem, achieved by carrying out link building and link baiting actions.

To implement an optimal SEO strategy, it is essential to note that both blocks must be worked on. Thus, while the On page side of SEO has to do with "the foundation" of our project to make sure that crawlers crawl and categorize our site correctly, the Off page side helps search engines interpret that our website enjoys popularity and relevance.

What benefits does implementing an SEO strategy bring?

An exemplary SEO implementation improves the Google ranking of a website and a better positioning of our brand in search engines concerning the competition.

The secret to the success of your online business lies in how well structured and strategic your SEO is because only good practices can get us the necessary traffic to grow on the Internet.

Everyone wants to appear on the first page of Google because the chances of a user accessing the website skyrocket with it. On the other hand, appearing on the second, third, or fourth page drastically reduces the arrival of organic traffic, that is, visitors who access from a search engine.

Two powerful figures in this regard: more than 30% of clicks go to the first organic result of Google, while 95% of users never go beyond the first page of results.

If a business wants to be visible to its customers online, it needs to appear in the highest positions in search engine rankings. This is the main reason SEO has become an essential ingredient for the success of any company on the Internet.

SEO is essential because it makes your website more useful for both users and search engines. Although these still cannot see a web page as a human does. SEO is necessary to help search engines understand what each page is about and whether it is helpful to users. SEO is a hot topic in the field of Digital Marketing. As technologies become cheaper and more widespread, the purchasing behavior of consumers changes, and this is where SEO becomes more important.
