Do you know what a VoIP system is?

Internet systems constantly improve and evolve, making IP voice systems an excellent choice for business phone systems. However, when it comes to taking the next step away from a conventional telephony system, there are many things to consider.

What is a voice IP system?

The acronym "VoIP" comes from "Voice over Internet Protocol." Another term widely used among experts is "IP telephony." VoIP is a process for transmitting voice messages and other communications over the Internet. Given the many advantages of VoIP, many companies are using it to replace traditional telephone lines, known as "POTS" or "public switched telephone networks" ("PSTN"). Voice over IP systems converts voice signals into digital data in data packets sent over the Internet via a router.

A VoIP call is a call that is made over the Internet or another type of communication, such as text messages, e-mails, or chat conversations. VoIP calls can include all the features of commercial PBX systems with multiple lines, such as voicemail, call forwarding, call waiting, caller ID, conference calling, etc.

One of the main advantages of IP voice systems is that their telephony software integrates effectively with other business applications (such as CRM systems) to provide you with a single source of customer information.

Using VoIP technology does not mean having to compromise on call quality. VoIP systems are synonymous with precise and uninterrupted calls. The quality of VoIP calls depends not only on a stable Internet connection but also on VoIP servers and service providers, SIP phones, routers, and computers.

Differences between an IP voice system and a telephone line

Traditional home phones or business phone systems use equipment that employs the primary rate interface (PRI) on the ISDN network, a set of communication standards that transmit video, voice, data, or other network services over PSTN.

PBX systems, on the other hand, use conventional telephone cables together with a PBX server hosted on the company's premises. This system allows more telephones than telephone lines, and calls between users are free of charge.

As mentioned above, VoIP phones are a technology that allows voice calls to be transmitted over the Internet. There are three types of VoIP phones: IP PBX, entirely virtual VoIP, and hybrid VoIP solutions.

In the IP PBX configuration, calls are routed via VoIP networks, the PSTN system, and vice versa. IP PBX servers can be hosted on-site by a telecommunications provider or an Internet service provider.

However, entirely virtual VoIP uses only the Internet and the telephony system software; it does not require physical telephones, cables, or other tools. This system is also known as a softphone setup. Users make and receive calls with a specialized application in a web browser and from a device, such as a computer, smartphone, or tablet.

In addition, there is a hybrid telephony solution that employs a PRI telephony system along with IP phones.

How VoIP calls work

VoIP calls require two elements to work. The first is to access an Internet connection on the device you will make them. The second element is an application that allows technology integration to make them. It is also necessary to have audio input and output, such as a microphone to speak through it and a speaker to listen.

The only thing is that each application usually implements these calls in different ways. This situation means that both people will have to be using the same application since, for example, you can't call from Telegram to WhatsApp. In this case, it is necessary to do it from Telegram to Telegram. Some adapters can be used to make them with root phones.

What are the benefits of Voice over IP?

Voice over IP (VoIP) transmission can facilitate many processes and services that are usually very difficult and costly to implement using the traditional PSTN voice network:

It is possible to make more than one call on the same telephone. In this way, VoIP can facilitate increasing the number of telephone lines in the company without the need for additional physical lines.

Functionalities typically billed extra by telephone companies, such as call forwarding, caller identification, or automatic redialing, are easy to implement with Voice over IP technology.

Unified Communications is possible with Voice over IP technology, as it allows the integration of other services available on the Internet network, such as video conferencing, instant messaging, etc.

A Voice over IP solution offers significant cost savings compared to traditional telephone systems. Users can obtain advantages such as free calls and lower rates for international and long-distance calls.

Organizations can enhance their customer service with applications that offer features to increase agent productivity and efficiency. In addition, customers can connect with the company through a variety of channels and make use of free calls to the contact center.

It is much easier to work with remote workers when your business has a VoIP software communications solution. Extensions can easily be added effortlessly, and employees can be added to the company phone system regardless of their location.

Fax machines are an antiquated device that many businesses are getting rid of. But for those who are loyal to simpler times, many modern communications solutions offer fax-to-email, simplified by VoIP.

Complete systems are easy and inexpensive to implement. Without extensive infrastructure, VoIP communications systems can be installed quickly and without great expense. And with mobile apps and web clients, there is no need for desk phones or expensive devices, making it an ideal solution for small businesses and large enterprises.

With a broadband Internet connection, a good Voice over IP service can offer excellent call quality with very little waiting time.

These and many other advantages of Voice over IP are causing businesses to adopt VoIP PBXs rapidly.

Battery-powered equipment is environmentally friendly, produces less noise, and saves costs.
